MEMORANDUM TO: Linda Gill, Gina Pallozzi, Dan Remeika FROM: Keith Corbett DATE: August 7, 1987 SUBJ: 3.0 Software Upgrade - Final Push COPY: Ron Genest, David Lee, Clovis Regis, Bill O'Brien Release 3 first shipped almost a year ago, but about half of the customers have not yet received it. This memo is to outline what needs to be done to ship the updates to the remaining customers with current Gigamos software contracts. Many of us have different pieces of this project to complete: 1. Ship-to update: I need the shipping orders Dan and Sandi Stewart kept for all the 3.0 upgrade kits that went out since my last database update. This will enable me to update the SHIPKEY database and print a final ship-to list. 2. Shipping orders: I will assist Gina with supervising the creation and cross-checking of ship-to orders from the database. 3. Materials: When I have the ship-to list, I will provide Linda with material requirements (tapes, manuals to print). We already have an order in for 100 1200' and 100 2400' tapes -- about enough for 50 complete kits. I will provide the documentation masters and printer's instructions to Linda for quoting the (final?) printing run. 4. Tape duplication: I will have to contract part-time help to duplicate about 200-250 tapes. This is about 150 hours of work over a 3-4 week span. 5. Assembly: Materials will assemble the documentation binders and upgrade kits. 6. Installation: As customers get release 3, Technical Support and Field Service receive many calls for installation assistance; some customers need a lot of hand-holding, and even on-site installation by a field engineer. Dispatch and Support may want to plan ahead and schedule the on-site visits that can be anticipated. Sales Admin may want to consider quoting some kind of expenses-based arrangement to recover the costs of doing on-site installations. If everything goes smoothly, we should complete 3.0 contract shipments by mid-September. That, by the way, is probably when we will begin the beta test for release 4. During this beta test we must begin to devise a better strategy for planning and tracking release 4 and future updates. KMC
