These tapes are in Apollo "cptape" format - the format Apollo used as output from the cptape program, and suitable for use with the Apollo simulator that is part of "MESS". 1. 512 byte blocks 2. File marker blocks consist of the pattern 0xde, 0xaf, 0xfa, 0xed repeated 128 times. Each of these images was verified by multiple drives. In most cases, each image was read twice each (on an actual Apollo DN3000 using cptape and on Linux using my own program) from two different tapes and then compared.
